Parking and Public Transport

Please note that parking on the University grounds is not permitted without a University of Adelaide parking permit.
This includes the underground car park next to Bonython Hall.
Parking is available on Kintore Avenue, Victoria Drive and at a number of commercial car parks close to the campus.

Academic Dress FAQs

Do I have to wear Academic Dress to participate in my Graduation Ceremony?
Yes. You will be required to wear the prescribed academic dress for the Degree or Diploma in which you are graduating.
This includes a gown, a mortar board, hood and/or stole in the appropriate colour.

I am receiving a Double Degree, how do I order my Academic Dress?
Double Degree students are allocated to one ceremony based on the University’s highest award rules.
Your Ceremony Attendance Confirmation Letter in MyAdelaide will show you the ceremony you have been allocated to receive both of your degrees.
You will only need to wear the hood for the highest award you are receiving, which will be indicated when you order.
If you have arranged to receive your Degrees in separate ceremonies with the University of Adelaide, then you will need to place two orders, one for each ceremony.
Please ensure you check the University's correspondence to confirm your allocation.

How do I book my Academic Dress?
GFP Graduations provide an easy online solution to order and pay for your gown hire.
Simply go to GFP Website and follow the prompts. Once you have completed your order you will receive an email confirmation.

How do I work out my Gown Size?
When you place your order online you will have the option to select your size e.g. extra small, small, medium, large etc
and we will also ask for your height, this will allow us to ensure you have the correct size.

Where and when can I collect/return my Academic Dress?

NOTE: Graduates do not need to print and bring anything to the gowning station

When do I return my Academic Dress?
Academic dress must be returned on ceremony day. Please ensure you have completed all photographic services prior to returning your gown. 
Failure to return your academic dress on graduation day may incur a late fee, unless otherwise arranged with staff.

What if I don't have a credit card - can I pay cash?
We highly recommend you use our secure online ordering system to ensure availability.
Alternatively, you can contact GFP to make a booking to pay on the day using cash and/or debit transactions.

Do I have to wear anything specific under my gown?
It is important to note the gown is open at the front; therefore what you are wearing underneath is visible.
It is for this reason we recommend you wear business attire and comfortable shoes.
If the day is warm, you may want to remove your jacket as the gowns are quite heavy and it may be hot in the auditorium.

How much will my Academic Dress hire cost?
Academic Dress hire prices vary depending on your requirements - as a general rule:

Bachelor & Masters Degrees:

Hood - $40 
Trencher/Mortarboard - $20

Bachelor & Masters Complete Sets - $85

Doctorates(PhD):

Doctorates(PhD) Complete Sets - $125

Terms and Conditions
Return of Academic Dress - Academic Dress is to be returned within 2 hours of the conclusion of your ceremony.
Failure to return Academic Dress on time will incur a charge equivalent to the balance of the purchase price of the regalia. The purchase price is three times hire price.
Cancellation of Order - If you need to cancel your order please contact Customer Service to arrange your refund at info@gfp.com.au.
Generally, refunds are not applicable if your cancellation occurs within 3 days of your ceremony.

Where can I order my academic dress?
You can order your academic dress online via GFP Graduations for Adelaide Ceremonies.
Academic dress fees from GFP fund various scholarships at the University of Adelaide.

How to wear your academic dress

It is important to remember the clothing you wear to your graduation ceremony will be visible as you walk across the stage. Neat, casual attire is most appropriate, with a shirt and tie recommended for male graduates. It is best to avoid jeans and sneakers. Please also note that a mortarboard must be worn as part of your academic dress, which should be kept in mind when planning your hair style.

Gown - The gown is worn over the top of your clothing like a jacket, undergraduate's arms go through the sleeve.
Post graduate students arm's slide through an opening in the sleeve.

Faculty Hood - For all degrees the hood is then placed over the top of your gown and worn with the colour hanging down the back of the gown and the V at the front of your neck. (For Graduates wearing a button shirt, there is a button hook to allow you to hook the hood on to stop it from moving about)

Mortarboard - The Mortarboard is worn with shallow part to the front of your head and the deep part at the back of the head, with the tassel placed on the left hand side of the head.

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR GOWN SIZE

Guest tickets will be available for download once your order is completed. 

All graduates have been issued with two guest tickets. You will have the opportunity to apply for additional tickets in MyAdelaide, please refer to your Ceremony Attendance Confirmation Letter for more information. Additional ticket applications close at 11:59pm Friday 5 April 2024. If you are successful in receiving additional tickets, you will be notified via student email and will be required to log back into this portal to access your additional tickets. We encourage you to invite any additional guests to watch the live stream of the event online from home.

Please select the number of guest tickets you would like to download below. You will be provided with the opportunity to enter your guest details after completing the checkout process, so that your guest tickets may be sent directly to your guests via email or SMS.

Prints including the university logo, border and year of graduation are available for collection at the conclusion of your ceremony in Hub Central.
