Do I have to wear Academic Dress to participate in my Graduation Ceremony?

Yes. You will be required to wear the prescribed academic dress for the Degree or Diploma in which you are graduating. This includes a gown, a mortar board, hood and/or stole in the appropriate colour.

I am receiving a Double Degree, how do I order my Academic Dress?

Double Degree students are allocated to one ceremony based on the University’s highest award rules. Your Ceremony Attendance Confirmation Letter in Access Adelaide will show you the ceremony you have been allocated to receive both of your degrees. You will only need to wear the hood for the highest award you are receiving, which will be indicated when you order.
If you have arranged to receive your Degrees in separate ceremonies with the University of Adelaide, then you will need to place two orders, one for each ceremony.
Please ensure you check the University's correspondence to confirm your allocation.

How do I book my Academic Dress?

GFP Graduations provide an easy on-line solution to order and pay for your gown hire. Simply go to GFP Website and follow the prompts. Once you have completed your order you will receive an email confirmation. Please present this confirmation at the Gowning counter to collect your gown.

How do I work out my Gown Size?

When you place your order online you will have the option to select your size e.g. extra small, small, medium, large etc and we will also ask for your height, this will allow us to ensure you have the correct size.

Where and when can I collect my Academic Dress?

Academic dress can be collected from the Eclipse Room at Union House, University of Adelaide campus. 
11am ceremonies – pick up is from 8am – 9:45am the morning of your ceremony 
2pm ceremonies - pick up is from 11am – 12:45pm the morning of your ceremony

When and where do I return my Academic Dress?

Academic dress must be returned on ceremony day. Please unsure you have completed all photographic services prior to returning your gown. Failure to return your academic dress on graduation day may incur a late fee, unless otherwise arranged with staff. Please refer to the terms and conditions below.

Please return academic dress to the Union House by close of business (5pm) on graduation day.

What if I don't have credit card - can I pay cash?

We highly recommend you use our secure online ordering system to ensure availability. Your receipt will be emailed to you. Please print and present this receipt at the Gowning counter to collect your academic dress. Alternatively, you can contact GFP to make a booking to pay on the day using cash and/or debit transactions.

Do I have to wear anything specific under my gown?

It is important to note the gown is open at the front; therefore what you are wearing underneath is visible. It is for this reason we recommend you wear business attire, and comfortable shoes. If the day is warm, you may want to remove your jacket as the gowns are quite heavy and it may be hot in the auditorium.

Academic Dress hire prices vary depending on your requirements - as a general rule:

Bachelor Degrees:

Hood - $20
Trencher/Mortar Board - $20

Terms and Conditions

Return of Academic Dress - Academic Dress is to be returned within 2 hours of conclusion of your ceremony. Failure to return Academic Dress on time will incur a charge equivalent to the balance of the purchase price of the regalia. Purchase price is three times hire price.
Cancellation of Order - If you need to cancel your order please contact Customer Service to arrange your refund. Generally refunds are not applicable if your cancellation occurs within 3 days of your ceremony.

Can I apply for or buy more tickets for my graduation ceremony?

You can apply for extra tickets through Access Adelaide. You do not need to buy any tickets as all tickets are free. Check Access Adelaide and your emails regularly because if you miss the date to apply for extra tickets, you will not receive any more than the standard allocation of tickets.

Please note that due to space restrictions in Bonython Hall additional tickets are not guaranteed. Guests without tickets are welcome to view a live stream of the ceremony in Hub Central.

Where can I order my academic dress?

You can order your academic dress online via GFP Graduations for Adelaide Ceremonies. Academic dress fees from GFP fund various scholarships at the University of Adelaide.

I don't want to miss my graduation; what are the important dates I need to know about?

You can find all the important graduation dates and deadlines on the Graduations website.

You will receive important information regarding your ceremony via your student email and Access Adelaide. Read your Ceremony Attendance Confirmation letter in Access Adelaide carefully and check your student email regularly.

What time do I need to arrive for my graduation ceremony?

11am ceremonies - you are required to check in to the marquee on the eastern side of Bonython Hall between 9:45am and 10:15am. All Graduates are required to attend a 10:15am pre-ceremony briefing inside Bonython Hall. Doors close strictly at 10:30am, so you must be seated in the Hall by this time otherwise you will miss your ceremony

2pm ceremonies - you are required to check in to the marquee on the eastern side of Bonython Hall between 12:45pm and 1:15pm. All Graduates are required to attend a 1:15pm pre-ceremony briefing inside Bonython Hall. Doors close strictly at 1:30pm, so you must be seated in the Hall by this time otherwise you will miss your ceremony

What should I wear to my graduation?

All graduates who attend their ceremony must wear the appropriate academic attire: gown, with hood and mortar board or bonnet. It is important to note that the gown is open at the front, therefore what you are wearing underneath is visible. We recommend wearing business attire under your gown and comfortable shoes. Information regarding gown hire and academic dress rules can be found on the Graduations website.

How long is the graduation ceremony?

The ceremony takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes however it will depend on the number of Graduates in attendance, among other factors.

How much does it cost to graduate?

The only essential cost to attend a graduation ceremony is the hire of Academic Dress. Please see above for Academic Dress hire prices.
You may also choose to purchase photographs or merchandise if you wish.

Where can I park on the day of the graduation ceremony?

Please note that parking on the University grounds is not permitted without a University of Adelaide parking permit. This includes the underground car park next to Bonython Hall.
Parking is available on Kintore Avenue, Victoria Drive and at a number of commercial car parks close to the campus.

Where are the graduation presentation ceremonies held?

The University of Adelaide holds graduation ceremonies in Bonython Hall on the North Terrace Campus in April/May and September. Information regarding the location of the ceremonies can be found on the Graduations website and in your Ceremony Attendance Confirmation in Access Adelaide.

What happens if I do not have enough guest tickets?

Only guests with a valid guest ticket will be permitted to enter Bonython Hall. If you have additional guests who do not have a ticket, the graduation ceremony is also live streamed in the Mezzanine level of Hub Central. You may wish to invite any additional guests to watch the ceremony in Hub Central, and then meet up with you afterwards.

Is there wheelchair access to the venue for guests?

The Eastern Entrance of Bonython Hall provides an accessible entrance for any guests who are in a wheelchair or have other accessibility requirements. This entrance will open to guests at the same time as the main entrance, and all guests will still be required to present a valid guest ticket for entry.

If one or more of your guests will be in a wheelchair, please indicate this in the special requirements section of your graduation application in Access Adelaide, or advise the Graduations Office via email, so that seating arrangements can be made by Graduations staff.

Please be aware that as space to accommodate guests in wheelchairs in Bonython Hall is limited, accompanying guests may be required to sit a row or two behind.
